How to Price a Used Appliance
Appliances evolve as technology advances. Many times appliances that have been gently used and work just fine are replaced by newer models, for no other reason than a digital dial or a more advanced timer. If you are getting rid of a trusty appliance in favor the newest model, you can find some tips on finding the right price for it here.
- Note the make and model of the appliance. You may be able to find a price from the manufacturer, but even if you cannot you will want to know what to compare it to.
- Check if the appliance is an antique, you may be able to find it online or in an antique shop if so. You want to know because antiques can be worth considerable money.
- Go to vintage shops, thrift stores, and consignment shops to find out how much they would give you or sell the same item for.
- Look through classified advertisements and online auctions to find a similar model of about the same age. You can estimate a price based on the ones you find and the condition of your appliance.
- Consider your market. If you have a classic or antique piece you may be able to sell it at an auction for a higher price. If you have a fairly new model you can sell it online or at a yard sale or swap meet and still get fair value.
- See an appraiser if you think you may have something valuable. Vintage or classic appliances are a big market for collectors. An antique piece could get you up to $1000, depending on its condition, history, and use.
