How to Raise Lab Puppies
Regardless of the type of puppy you get, each breed requires dedication and attention in order to properly raise it. You must understand certain qualities of a lab in order to raise it in the way that is best for optimal health and happiness.
- Prepare your home so that it is a stable and safe environment to raise puppies. This includes discarding or hiding items that are small enough to be dangerous to the lab puppies. Since puppies like to chew on everything during this stage, the puppies can easy choke on smaller items if they are not chewable toys that are meant for them to chew on.
- Schedule regular veterinarian appointments for vaccinations and checkups. When you ensure that you are taking care of the puppy as you would a child when speaking in terms of precautionary medical care, you are able to prevent and stop certain conditions, such as heartworms and other types of infestations from forming.
- Train the puppies at an early age. This particular breed is well known for unruly behavior if you do not train them in the proper ways. You should not punish the puppies; just make sure they understand that if they do something good, they are rewarded. Otherwise, the puppies can become overbearing and try to rule your home as they grow older.
- Take them on regular walks and allow them to spend time outside getting exercise, as labs are a particularly active breed. This breed also likes to play in the water, so if you have a pool in your backyard or in your neighborhood, the puppies can get their exercise this way.
