How to Record Music

Recording music can be a very fun and rewarding experience. If you have a good singing voice or if you are in a band, it can definitely get you started in the world as an artist. You can build up experience by sending your recorded music to your local radio stations. Recording music allows you to add your own flavor to sound.

  1. Record at home, especially when you can't afford to buy or rent a recording studio. Many people use their basements to record music. Any quiet place where you can just concentrate and work is a good place to use.

  2. Prepare the microphone, making sure it's a distance away from your mouth, but up close enough to hear the sound.

  3. Search for the best software for recording demos. You will need a digital recorder. You can get stand-alone multi-track setups, or you can use software on your computer called Sony Acid, which is multi-tracking software for beginners. Searching the Internet for free software is also a good way to see what other softwares work for you.

  4. Find your sound by experimenting and recording. Build up your layers of sound by mixing, which you can do by adjusting the volume levels to find the best level of sound. You also want to balance your sound out with the panning, the balance of the left and right speakers.

  5. Keep on practicing until the sound starts smoothing out, and you eventually have something to work with.
