How to Remove Advertising Banners
When searching the Internet often times advertising banners are all but avoidable. They have the ability to move across your screen as you scroll, flash on and off and even make annoying sounds. However, within certain Internet browsers or with the purchase of certain anti-virus software you can successfully remove this unwanted nuisance.
- Download the latest version of the Mozilla Firefox Internet browser. After a complete installation select the Adblock Plus add-on option. Once you have installed this add-on to your Firefox Internet browser you can now right click on any ad that you wish to remove while browsing the Internet. The browser then uses a system to block all similar ads that match that ad's server source address.
- Disable all images in your browser. Use your mouse to click on "Options" or "Tools", depending on your Internet browser, then select "Content". Next, be sure to un-check the "Load Images" or "Show Pictures" option. After completing this step, any website you visit that utilizes banner ads will keep the ads from being visible to you. However, this option does not block Flash content ads. Additionally, select the "block pop-ups" option in your Internet browser preferences menu. Keep in mind, the availability of these options will vary depending on the type of Internet browser you have installed on your computer.
- Create a list of websites that generally serve ad banners when you are visiting their page. You can then find and edit the "Host" file on your computer, it is generally located under the "System32driversetc" folder, which is located on your "C" drive. In your Internet browser address bar type in "127.0.0.1" followed by a space and then the ad server site address you wish to block. You will need to repeat this step for each ad server you wish to block.
