- Wear a HEPA filter mask and gloves when cleaning areas with mold. Nitrite gloves and an N95 respirator mask can be found at most hardware stores. Repair all water leaks before if any are present. Vacuum any areas that need it and make sure you use a HEPA vacuum for the best protection.
- Use a solution containing 1 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of water to clean the moldy area. Saturate the area for a full 20 minutes. Allow the area to air dry completely.
- Wash surfaces such as concrete, plastic, tile or ceramic areas with laundry detergent or dish soap. Use a stiff bristle brush to scrub the area. Use your diluted bleach and water to wash these areas. Allow them to dry completely.
- Use disinfected mold and mildew cleaners that are available at most supermarkets and department stores. Allow the disinfected spray to sit on the surface for 20 minutes wet. Allow it to sit and dry for 5 hours to kill all mold. Allow all items made of fabric material to air dry by the sun. You will need to wash all fabric items with laundry detergent after treatment.
- Properly dispose of all supplies used to get rid of mold such as gloves and masks.
