How to Remove Motorcycle Exhaust Systems
Motorcycle exhaust systems are the vehicle's most prominent feature. The sound of the exhaust and the appearance of the pipes are very important to bike owners. Every owner has different opinions and preferences, but the look of the pipes, and the sound of a bike are what make a bike unique.
The first step to customizing your exhaust system is removing the standard factory pipes. There will be some deviation from bike to bike, and you may need to refer to your owner's manual for the specific location of your fasteners. You'll need to remove the plastic coverings to get to the exhaust system, and then it's just a matter of following the steps outlined below. This should walk you through the process of removing your exhaust system from your motorcycle.
Directions:
- Unbind the supports holding the radiator in place and move it forward, which will allow you the access to the header bolts.
- Remove the header bolts, which connect to the header and keep it in place, and then remove the header pipe. Once you remove the bolts connected to the part, the header pipe should come off without any difficulty.
- Unfasten and remove the butterfly valve as well as the collector with it. This should give you good access to the exhaust pipes, because it's the last item holding the remaining exhaust pipes in place.
- Pull off the rear muffler.
- The exhaust system is now off the motorcycle, and you are prepared to get started installing a new one.
