How to Upgrade Import Exhaust Systems

Exhaust systems are becoming more and more popular. There are now a wide variety of exhaust upgrades available for import cars as well. In the previous years, the exhaust upgrades were mostly available for American cars. Find exhaust upgrades online or at local auto part stores.

  • Determine which exhaust will be used when upgrading the exhaust system on the import.

  • Purchase the upgrade.

  • Put the car on jacks or on a hydraulic lift. A hydraulic lift will be better because it will allow for more room to complete the upgrade.

  • Remove the previous exhaust system.

  • Decide if the upgrade will require chrome or polished tips and if the catalytic converters will stay on, or if they will be removed.

  • Remove the converters if decided on.

  • Decide if the exhaust manifolds will be replaced with exhaust headers. Exhaust headers will give the exhaust a tougher sound. Headers are easy to install. Simply remove the manifolds and replace them with headers. Headers can be found online or in auto magazines.

  • Run the new exhaust pipe from either the exhaust manifolds or the headers. Run them to the middle of the import and then decide if the exhaust tips will come out the back, or out on the sides. Either way will look and sound great, it is just based on the opinion of the driver.

  • Place the exhaust in the proper place and continue to run the rest of the exhaust pipe. When everything is tight and secure the upgrade on the import's exhaust is complete.
