How to Reset Your AT&T DSL Modem
Resetting your DSL modem can provide a solution to a number of problems. Speed and connectivity errors are often easy to fix, and they may only require a quick modem reset to fix. There are a few different types of resets you can do on an AT&T DSL modem, so learning how to do them all can help you troubleshoot without calling technical support.
- Look for a reset button on the back control panel of the modem. It may be depressed into the panel, so you may need a thin object like a pin to press the button. When you locate the button, press it and wait for the modem to reset and go through the power cycle process.
- Unplug the DSL modem from the wall and wait 60 seconds. This will initiate a hard reset, which can solve many connection issues. Plug the modem back in and wait for it to reboot. Rebooting can take several minutes, so wait at least five minutes before trying different reset methods.
- Try restarting your computer while the modem is unplugged if a typical hard reset doesn’t solve your problem. Plug in the modem after your computer is finished restarting.
- Leave the modem unplugged overnight if any of the previous methods did not work to resolve your problem. This will reset your IP address and possibly eliminate any errors that might be causing modem issues.
- Contact customer support for more help. A technical support agent can walk you through additional steps or help you determine if you need a new modem or if your phone line is not properly working.
