How to Ride a Horse Like a Champion

If you want to ride a horse like a champion, you must be willing to put in the time and the effort that it takes to accomplish this. Champion riders have complete control of the horse at all times and are able to make them walk, trot and gallop on command.

  • Take lessons. Go to a stable and sign up for lessons with an experienced rider. This will most likely be one of the guides. In order to become a guide at a horse riding stable, you must be able to ride like a champion. The guide or instructor will teach you the basic skills that you need to master in the beginning.

  • Wear appropriate clothing. When riding a horse it is recommended that you wear loose long pants, preferably jeans, and boots. Horses do attract flies and mosquitoes so you will definitely want to apply bug repellant before riding as well.

  • Watch instructional videos. If you do not have your own horse, then you will probably not be able to ride on a daily basis. For this reason, it is a good idea to purchase horse riding videos. This way you can watch the professionals and study their riding habits.

  • Stay calm and confident. When you are a beginner, it is easy to become intimidated by a horse that is much larger and more powerful than you. A horse can sense fear, so it is best for you to remain calm and confident in your abilities when handling the horse.

  • Study the behavior of a horse. There are certain elements that a horse will react to. For example, when riding in a wooded area, if you come across trees with berries, they will automatically try and stop to eat. This is where you need to take control of the reins and pull their head up and make them continue on the trail.

  • Respect your horse. There is a difference between being able to control your horse and mistreating it. Make sure to offer your horse a treat when appropriate and rub and stroke them before and after a ride.
