How to Ride on a Garden Tractor
Without any kind of riding lawnmower, a person would have to use a push mower. If you have a large yard, especially over an acre or two, you probably utilize a time and energy-saving device known as a garden tractor. Although it is not very difficult, riding a garden tractor does require some knowledge in order for you to avoid injury.
Supply List
- Owner’s manual
- Proper shoes
- Gas
- Keys to your mower
- Review your owner’s manual for your riding lawnmower. This gives you a general idea of what certain knobs do, how to start your mower and how to safely switch gears. You will also learn about changing the blade and the different settings for your blade.
- Wear shoes that are sturdy to avoid any injuries to your feet. Make sure the soles are not slippery also.
- Make sure you have gas in your tractor. You will not get far with an empty tank.
- Notice if the lawnmower is in neutral and the blade is up prior to boarding your lawnmower. If it is not, you will want to change the settings so the lawnmower’s blade is up, and it is neutral. Usually, the setting is known as “disengaged” on your blade lever.
- Sit on the seat of your lawnmower, then start your tractor by placing the key in the ignition and turning it to start the engine. Some mowers have a pull-start, which means you will have to manual crank the engine.
- Place your tractor in first or second gear after you push in the clutch. Let your clutch out and proceed driving the mower forward. Practice driving your lawn mower a few times before you put your blade down. The blade can be dangerous for beginners.
- Practice steering your lawnmower. Ride around different obstacles and practice steering. Keep your hands on the wheel at all times. Use your brakes to practice stopping. Once you are comfortable, put your blade down and start mowing.
