How to Select a Backpacking Water Purifier
When you are going camping, you will need a fresh supply of clean drinking water. Carrying all of the water you are going to need may be difficult if not impossible. A backpacking water purifier is a great way to purify any water source prior to drinking it to ensure that the water is safe to drink.
- Determine the amount that you have to spend on a backpacking water purification system. There are a variety of different options for filtering water while camping. The price of water filtration systems varies greatly, so it is best to decide how much money you have to spend to help you choose the best one for you.
- Consider using water purification tablets. These easy-to-use tablets are lightweight and easy to carry. Simply add a single tablet to a quart of water from any water source and allow the tablet to dissolve for 15 minutes. The harmful bacteria contained within the water will be killed and the water will be safe to drink. Although, the water may have a slight chemical taste to it from the dissolution of the contents of the tablet. These tablets are fairly inexpensive.
- Boil water to kill any live organisms or bacteria that may be harmful. Simply bring a camping coffee pot with you when you go camping, and boil the water for 15 minutes prior to drinking it. If you want the water to be cold, place it in a cooler after it has been boiled to cool it down before drinking.
- Check out portable water filtration systems if you are looking for a convenient and quick way to filter a large amount of water at one time. Most portable water filtration systems use an electric or manual pump to push the water through a special filter that is designed to remove any harmful organisms that may be found within the water. This is the most expensive option; however, it will allow you to quickly filter large amounts of water.
