How to Replace a Water Filter

Water filters are great for removing contaminants from your water supply.  However, after a while you need to replace it.  There are quite a few types of home water filters that can be connected right to your major water pipe or to your fridge-freezer.

Things You'll Need:

  • Screwdriver or wrench

  • Replacement water filter

  1. Switch off your water by shutting down the major water pipe regulator in the home. This is important if you are changing an entire house water filter, which is connected to the inward cold water pipe.

  2. Release the clamp or screw that locks the current water filter to the filter housing, or that holds the housing secured. Minor water filters for a refrigerator basically attach to the plastic water pipe that comes from the sink. Additional ones will be within the filter housing, which attaches to the pipe or faucet top.

  3. Separate the filter by turning it and sliding it out of the housing. Keep with the directions on the substitute water filter bundle pertaining to which way, clockwise or counter- clockwise, to rotate the filter.

  4. Add on the latest water filter through sliding it into the housing, twisting and fastening the filter in position. Once more, check the substitute filter's bundle directions as they regard to your specific filter.

  5. Make sure you know that manufacturers suggest the water filter on a fridge-freezer be changed at every six months. Replacing the water filter on a frequent basis will maintain the water from the fridge-freezer clean and tasting pleasant.
