How to Send a Fax Through a Broadband Modem

Broadband modems are required to have Internet access in your home or office. New technology has provided the convenience of sending a fax through an email or online website. You would use your broadband connection, so you don’t need a fax machine or separate line.

  1. Visit the website of an electronic fax company such as eFax. Register with the website. Provide your contact information and a working email address. Use your primary email address, or create a new email strictly for fax use. This is how you will send and receive your faxes. If the service is not free, provide your credit card information.

  2. Check your inbox for a conformation email from the fax company. This email will include a link that you need to use to sign into the website and to get your fax number. Write this number down or print it on your business cards. This will be the number you send and receive faxes through.

  3. Click on the "New" or "Compose" button in your email account. Compose your email. If you want to send specific documents, attach them through the email. Type the recipients fax number into the "To" box followed by "@(recipient's service provider name).com."

  4. Click on the "Send" button to send the fax through the broadband modem to the recipient's fax or email. When the recipient sends a reply fax, you can view it by checking your email. The fax will appear as a regular email and can be opened and read just the same.
