How to Set the Alarm on Atomic Clocks

How to Set Radio Controlled Atomic Clocks

A radio controlled atomic clock is a precise and accurate clock that has a radio in it.  The radio is able to pick up signals from a radio broadcast frequency.  These clocks are the international standard for calculating time and are accurate down to the second.

  • Place the clock face down on a flat surface and open the battery cover. For most clocks, you need to press down then pull the cover off.

  • Insert new batteries in the battery compartment of the clock.  The batteries should be installed correctly, following the instructions in order to maintain the correct polarity.

  • Press the cover back to close it.  A set up message will appear on the display screen, which indicates the clock is functional.

  • Locate the reset button and hold it down if the display signal does not go on.  The clock will start looking for a signal.  The time indicated on the clock before you set it is the default time.

  • Wait a few minutes for the clock to scan for the signal.  As soon as the signal is received, the time on the clocks display will change to reflect the time.  This process can take up to 10 minutes depending on your location.

  • Confirm that the clock is displaying the right time.  If it is, the setting process is complete.  If the clock fails to receive a signal, it will go off.

  • Move the clock to a different location away from any objects like electrical devices, which may cause interference.  The best position to move is next to a window.  Avoid placing the clock on a metal surface.

  • Press the set button again and wait for the clock to search for a signal.  You may need to leave the clock for a couple of hours until the reception is clear.  The clock will set automatically once the signal is received.  Avoid opening the clock while it is setting.
