How to Set Up a Phone System That Forwards Calls
Traveling away from your home means you are going to miss some phone calls. Since your location will no doubt have a telephone at your disposal, why not request that your calls get forwarded? It's a fast and easy way to ensure that you will not miss anything important while you're gone.
- Research your telephone provider’s guidebook to verify what features you are entitled to utilize. Most basic plans come with call forwarding free of charge but there may be a small fee involved with the initial activation.
- Try getting the number forwarded by your phone company first. If this is a feature that is included, ask them to set things up for you. Since you are paying for the service in your monthly fee, they should have no problems assisting you with your request. They should be able to give you options regarding the dates so the process is seamless.
- Activate yourself by pressing a code into your telephone using your touchpad. The code for almost all service providers is *72.
- Dial the number you will forward your calls to (alternate phone number where you will be traveling).
- Wait for a recording or prompt.
- Verify the call has been forwarded. If you receive a busy signal, the telephone line you are attempting to forward your calls to may be in use. Try again in a few minutes. You can check to ensure the call forward process was successful by calling your home number. If the call is picked-up at the destination location (alternate phone number), it is complete. You can practice this with a friend or family member before you leave just to familiarize yourself with the process.
- Remove the call forward option by selecting *73 on the alternate phone number. This will break the bond and each line will ring independently.
