How to Set Up a Spin Cast Pole for Trout Fishing
Fishing for trout provides fun and food for fishers of ranging in age. Though there are many options for fishing equipment designed for this species of salmonidnative; however, the spin cast pole is quite a popular choice for trout fishing.
Supply List
- Bobber
- Rod, line and reel
- Bait of your choice
- Hooks
- Select an ultra-light light for the best experience with trout fishing. The rod should be a spin casting outfit ranging between 4½ to 5 feet in length.
- Choose a light to medium weight rod with a length between 5½ feet to 6 feet in length, if you plan on fishing in larger streams.
- Tie a hook onto the end of your line. Place one or two split shots a few inches above your hook. To secure them on your line, use a pair of pliers. Fishing for some trout may be more successful with a split shot placed higher up on the line. The size of the split shots should be small to medium.
- Attach a bobber to the line about 1 foot above the hook, if you are in shallow water. If you are fishing in deep water, place the bobber 2 to 3 feet above the hook. For night fishing, you may always use a glow-in-the-dark bobber. However, if you are fishing during the day, a standard red and white bobber works fine. The bobber should match the size of your bait. For instance, if you are fishing with a worm you only need about a 1¼-inch bobber as opposed to a 2-inch bobber that works with minnow. You do not need a split shot if you use a bobber.
- Make sure bring extra equipment because line breaks, bobbers go missing and you may drop your split shots.
