How to Sew an Inside Pocket on Ski Pants
You can sew on an inside pocket to your ski pants to secure your valuables close to you. Ski pants normally come with regular pockets that are in the style of cargo pockets, but not too many come with and inside pocket. With the right materials you can sew a pocket onto your ski pants.
Materials Needed:
- Ski pants
- 4 inch zipper
- Cloth measuring 6 by 12 inches
- Needle and thread
- Pins
Making the Pocket
- Fold the cloth in half and pin it. The topside should measure inches long when folded in half and will be the longer side. Line up both pieces of the topside of the cloth and pin them together. Make sure they are about inch from the top.
- Slide the edges of the pocket underneath the bottom edges of the cloth attached to zipper sides. Sew the zipper on the top portion of the pocket. Push the zipper into the fold all the way in. Sew on the pocket using a cross stick, and make sure to leave one end opened.
- Fold a side of the cloth that has the open end of the pocket underneath the other side. Pin it in place when the width of the pocket is 4 inches long; the seam length as the zipper. Open the zipper and then turn the pocket inside out. On the remaining open side, sew the pocket together and use scissors to trim off the excess material. Stitch the top corner of the cloth to the bottom of the zipper to close the remaining hole that is under the zipper at the top.
- Put the cloth back on the right side by pulling it through the zipper. From the bottom of the cloth measure 1 inch up and pin it together. Finish the bottom of the pocket by closing it with another cross-stitch. Trim away any excess material.
Sew it On
- Figure out where you want your inside pocket attached to your ski pants. Find the bottom of the inside waist seam of our pants. If the waist seam is elastic don’t attach the pocket to it.
- Pin the pocket to the pants near the left or right fly below the inside waist seam. Be sure that that the 4 inches of pocket is pinned to inside liner cloth 4 inches.
- Stitch the pocket to the liner cloth of the ski pants using a cross-stitch. Close the zipper. Enjoy you ski pants new inside pocket!
