How to Sharpen a Lawn Mower Blade Grinder

Sharpening the blade of your lawn mower is part of normal mower maintenance. A sharp lawn mower blade can mean the difference between a cut yard and a perfectly cut yard. To learn how to sharpen a lawn mower blade using a grinder follow the steps in this article.

Step 1: Turn the mower off and remove the spark plug.

Step 2: Use a wrench to remove the bolt that holds the blade on the lawn mower.

Step 3: Use steel wool or a wire brush to remove any rust that is on the blade.

Step 4: Run a grinder against the edge of the blade until it is smooth. If you do not own a grinder you can take the blade to a lawn mower repair shop and have it done there.

Step 5: Check the balance of the blade. If it is off balance file one side until the blade is balanced.

Step 6: Clean underneath the mower and remove any old grass or clumps of mud.

Step 7: Install the blade back into the mower and tighten the bolt to hold it in place.
