How to Size Images for Embroidery Digitizing
Professional embroidery designs no longer have to be completed by a professional embroidery shop. They can be done at home. With a bit of practice, you will be able to size images for your projects. The most important things are your embroidery machine's size parameters, the hoop size and embroidery placement area. These play a role in the size of embroidered items you will be able to produce.
Supplies
- Embroidery digitizing software
- Embroidery digitizing machine
- Hoops
- Embroidery thread
- Embroidery design
- Fabric or garment for embroidery
- Use your computer and scanner to scan the design into the digitizing software. The image will appear in the digital software drawing tool. Set the size of your project image from this drawing tool area. Once complete your design will be converted into a readable digital pattern for your machine and stored on an embroidery card.
- Put the embroidery card into your machine's card reader.
- Set the machine to the location of the embroidery on the fabric or project.
- Set your design parameters so that your machine will not stitch within two inches of bulky seams. This prevents stitches from being skipped and fabric puckering. Follow your machine's recommend hoop specifications on where to put your fabric into the hoop for embroidery.
- Place your fabric in your hoop and stitch out the pattern.
- Check the design to make sure it is satisfactory before permanently writing it to your digital embroidery card. Make sure the colors in the design remain in the same position when the design is enlarged. This will affect your entire project.
- Resize your design manually if your machine doesn't do it automatically.
- Try reducing or enlarging your image on a copier before scanning it. Be careful because some items can become distorted.
Drawn designs must be scanned directly into your digital software's drawing area. Make sure your images from your computer design program can be read by your embroidery digital software. If your design program is not compatible with your digital embroidery machine, it must be printed out from your computer's drawing program and scanned directly into your embroidery digitizing software.
