How to Split a Cable TV Line
Splitting a cable TV line is common for people who want to attach more than one TV to their cable box. This process is very simple with only a few tools. Cable technicians will charge you a lot of money to do this so learning will certainly save you money.
Things You'll Need:
- Cable Splitter
- Coax Cable
- Wire Strippers
- Crimper
- Attach a splitter to the end of the cable line that goes from your cable box to your TV. You should be able to purchase either a three-way or two-way splitter at a local electronics store. A three-way splitter will allow you to attach three TVs to the cable signal and a two-way splitter will allow you to attach two TVs to the cable signal. The splitter will be clearly marked as to where the primary cable line is supposed to be attached to the splitter.
- Attach two or three separate coax cable lines to the other end of the splitter. Make sure you purchase coax cable that’s long enough to reach every TV. Coax cable should also be available at local electronic stores. You might need to order coax cable at the electronics store if you're looking for extra long lines. The coax cable lines should have the connectors already attached. You might need to attach the connectors of each line yourself with wire strippers and crimpers.
- Attach the coax cable lines to each TV. Where you attach the cable line on each TV will vary depending upon which input you want to hook it up to. You should now be able to watch cable TV on multiple channels.
