How to Stop an MP3 Download

Sometimes it becomes necessary to stop an mp3 download when it threatens to slow down your internet connection; the process to follow is similar to any file data download. Software like iTunes and BitTorrent make allowances for simple download cancelling and pausing. Cancellation as opposed to stopping takes longer since the file downloaded so far needs to be re-downloaded.

  • Find the file download option of BitTorrent. Click on the progress bar of the file and move the cursor towards the X in the top left corner, which stops the download but still allows the other users to download information from you. To completely stop uploading and downloading  right-click the file and click finish.

  • For doing this in iTunes, find the file download by clicking the “Downloads” section in the left navigation bar. You will find a pause sign to the right of the progress bar. Pressing this will help you to stop and delete the download in progress. Press the “X” to achieve this.

  • In Internet Explorer, open the minimized download window, and remember that IE 9 BETA does not yet have an option for pause. Cancel the down load by clicking the button located to the far right in the current download tab.

  • For Safari, locate the download window. There is a pause button in the right of the progress bar which can be clicked to pause the download. To stop it completely, click the “X” button.

  • For Chrome, click the arrow in the bottom pop-up of Chrome and select the click or pause option from the consequent scroll down screen depending upon your requirements.

  • To do this is Firefox, click the pop-up to stop the MP3 download and cancel using the link that appears along with the progress bar. Click the link and minimize the window.
