How to Stretch Before Working Out to a Gymnastics Video

Stretching your muscles before working out to a gymnastics video can prevent injuries. The stretch routine should cover a lot of areas of the body, mainly the ones you’ll be using for the gymnastics moves you’re doing that day. In order to stretch properly you’ll need to learn techniques and dedicate a good portion of your workout to stretching.

  • Focus on stretching out your neck and back muscles. There are several gymnastics moves that require the use of these areas. One gymnastics move that puts a lot of strain on the neck and back is the arch bend.  To prepare for an exercise like this slowly bend down and touch your toes or the floor. Focus on the neck area by rolling it around or pulling it as far as you can to each side. Slowly can to ten during each stretch.

  • Stretch out any joint areas on your body. Gymnastics requires a lot of bending at the joints. Reach up as high as you can or swing your arms in circles to stretch out the shoulder joints. Lean as far as you can to each side from 10 seconds to stretch the hip joints. Bend one arm at a time at the elbow, place your opposite hand on each elbow and pull it downward behind your head for ten seconds.

  • Start slowly with every stretch. Do not move too quickly, since stretching a muscle too quickly can injure or tear it. The point is to reach as far as you can with every stretch, but not all at once.
