How to Stretch for Boxing Training
Boxing requires the use of many muscles in your body. Stretching them properly before a workout session is vital to avoid possible injury. There are many easy to perform stretches for your arms, legs and mid section. A good warm up routine will help you prepare your body for training.
Arm Strectches
- Lock your hands together with palms facing upward and, moving in a reaching fashion, stretch as high as you can go.
- Using your right hand, grab your left elbow and lift upwards until your right forearm is directly above your head. Apply slight pressure to the elbow and hold for 10 seconds. Do the same exercise using your left hand and grabbing the right elbow.
- Move each arm one at a time in a windmill motion going clockwise. Then switch to counter-clockwise with each arm. This should be done for 15 to 20 seconds on each arm.
Mid Section
- Rotating from side to side with hands on your waist, twist your torso for approximately 30 seconds.
- Lifting your right hand above you, reach to your left side over your head and keeping your body in a straight position. Do the same with your left hand reaching to your right.
Legs
- Squat down until your waist is parallel with your knees and stand back up. Do this 10 times to get your legs warmed up.
- Standing straight up, grab your right foot with your right hand and gently pull up. Hold this position for 5 seconds and then repeat with the other leg. Do this 2-3 times each leg to stretch the quads and you are done.
