How to Verify a Bank Check

How to Trace a Certified Bank Check

If you are selling something, you may be paid with a certified bank check. Unfortunately, sometimes these bank checks can be fakes. That is why it is important to verify that the certified bank check is authentic. This will help you to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. The process is quite simple and can be done in a few minutes.

  1. Examine the check and find out
which bank issued it. The name of the bank and the address of the
bank will be clearly visible on the check. You will also be able to
see the phone number for the bank on the check.

  2. Verify that the contact
information on the check is the correct information for that bank.
If the information does not match up, then you know the check is a
fake. Use the phone book or the Internet to find the contact
    information for that particular bank.

  3. Contact the bank. Provide the
person from the bank with the information about the check. The bank
will be able to verify the check if the bank did indeed issue it. If
the bank is not that far away, you can simply take the check to the
bank to see if it is real or not.

  4. Use the bank's website. This is another option that you can use when tracing a certified bank check. Go to the customer service page on the website and find the email address for customer support. Provide the bank with details about the check. It will take up to 24 hours for you to get a response.
