How to Unclog Kitchen Sinks
Using the kitchen sink can be a pretty frustrating task when it doesn’t drain properly. But, don’t call that plumber and fork out lots of money yet. You may be able to unclog that drain yourself. All you need are some normal household ingredients.
Items Needed:
- Baking soda
- Large bowl
- Vinegar
- Measuring cup
- Prepare a homemade solution to unclog that pesky drain. Mix together ½ cup of baking soda and ½ cup of vinegar in the large bowl. Mixing these ingredients will cause a fizzing chemical reaction. The container being used should be large enough to contain the eruption.
- Dump the entire mixture into the clogged drain and let it fizzle for about 5 minutes. This will allow plenty of time for the solution to remove the gunk that is clogging the drain.
- Turn on the hot water on the sink to rinse away the remaining solution and move the rest of the gunk down the drain.
- Watch the water for a minute or two to see if it is draining properly. If the sink is draining properly the solution worked. Repeat the above steps again if the draining has only slightly improved.
- Call a plumber or purchase a drain unclogging solution from a local store if this process doesn’t work. You can find a list of area plumbers in the phone book, or you can choose from several drain unclogging solutions at a hometown store. Sometimes solid objects can become lodged in your drain pipes, and this solution will not help.
