How to Use Ball Link Pliers for RC Model

Ball link pliers look like needle-nose pliers, with the addition of distinctive forked ends.  Pliers in this category are typically used for working on linkage in remote-controlled models.  They can be used to remove the linkage from the ball, push it into the ball or just hold the linkage while other adjustments are made.

The ball link is a critical piece of many remote controlled models, especially helicopters. Ball link pliers are needed when adjusting and removing these links. One end of the ball link pliers is forked differently than the other for the purpose of replacement or removal of the link from the ball joint. One is a large, ope- forked end and the other is a smaller open fork. On the smaller fork end, there is a nib on the inside just below the fork.

For linkage removal:

  1. Hold the ball link pliers by the handles in the open position.

  2. Insert the large indentation behind the plastic link to be removed and over the ball joint.

  3. Have the small indentation rest of the front of the ball joint and the nib on the ball as you gently close the handles.

  4. Squeeze the handles together. The plastic link will pop off the end of the ball joint.

To attach the linkage on:

  1. Open the pliers.

  2. Position the small indentation over the ball joint.

  3. Align the hole at the end of the plastic link in front of the ball joint.

  4. Close the pliers by resting the large indentation on the front surface of the plastic link

  5. Squeeze the handles to push the link onto the ball joint.
