How to Use a Library Catalogue
Most libraries have changed from the old catalogue system that used cards to the new online version that allows users to views the library's inventory from almost any computer. To learn how to use a library catalogue follow the step-by-step guide in the article below.
Step 1: Visit the website of your local library.
Step 2: Click on the link or icon that says library catalogue.
Step 3: You should be able to search the library catalogue in a couple of different ways. You may choose to search by title, author or ISBN number.
Step 4: When you have found the book you are looking for, check to make sure it is available at the library and has not been checked out by another person.
Step 5: If the book you want is currently out, you can look to see if the catalogue tells you when it is due back.
Step 6: If the library does not carry the book you are looking for, you can speak with a librarian and ask if they can order the book for you. Most libraries also participate in a book exchange program, so they may be able to borrow it from a neighboring library.
