How to Wire Cable TV
A cable TV generally uses a coaxial cable to obtain its programming. Cable TV customers typically purchase this cable with the connectors already attached to the ends of the cable. Users typically need to attach the connectors themselves in cases where the cable needs to be a specific length.
Things You'll Need:
- Coaxial cable cutter/stripper
- Coaxial cable
- Connector
- Place the end of the coaxial cable between the jaws of the cable cutter so that the cable is at a right angle to the cutter. Trim the end of the table to create a neat cut across the cable.
- Strip a half inch of the outer sheath from the coaxial cable with the cable cutter. Fold the exposed copper braiding over the outer sheath so that it lies flat.
- Cut one-fourth inch of the inner sheath from the end of the cable to expose the inner copper wire. Place the copper wire through the hole in the center of the inner face of the connector.
- Push the connector over the folded copper braiding so that the end of the inner sheath is flush against the inner face of the connector.
- Place the end of the connector into the matching socket on the cable cutter. Squeeze the handles firmly to crimp the connector to the cable.
- Remove the connector from the cable cutter’s socket, and pull the connector away from the cable with 25 pounds of force. This will ensure the connector has been properly crimped.
- Screw the cable connector onto the matching terminal of your TV.
