How to do 50's Hair

The 1950s had many classic styles that we don't see very often anymore. One of those classics is the way that ladies wore their hair regularly during that time. Here are some popular hairstyles of the 50s that can be created easily for the women of today.

The Beehive

The beehive was worn by ladies both young and old during the 50s. This style is a bit difficult to create and you may prefer to go to a professional stylist. However, it can be done at home. Start by washing your hair and allowing it to dry. Then set all the hair in rollers and roll it back and secure tightly with bobby pins. Leave rollers in for at least 20 minutes. Take hair down and tease it all over. Smooth the outside layer of hair and comb it straight back. Comb hair at the nape of the neck upwards and keep combing until all hair is secured at the top of the head. Secure with bobby pins and then wrap the hair around itself going upward from the top. When all hair has been wrapped and a large upright bun has been achieved, secure the hair tightly with bobby pins. The bun should stand upward from the head at least 3 to 5 inches and look similarly to a beehive on top of the head.

The Ponytail

This style was very popular in the 50s and still is to some extent. It is easy to create by simply pulling all hair to the back center of the head and combing it back smoothly. Secure it tightly with an elastic band and tie a scarf around the band. Allow the sides of the scarf to drape down each side of the ponytail.

The Bouffant

The bouffant hairstyle needs to be set with rollers. Once the rollers have been in for at least 20 minutes, remove them and tease the hair all over. Then comb the top layer back smoothly to cover the center part in the hair. This style can be held in place by spraying generously with hairspray.
