Oily Skin Problems

Obesity and Skin Problems

There are several skin problems that are linked to obesity. While anyone can develop skin conditions, obesity can exacerbate the problems. There are conditions associated with diabetes, poor nutrition and excess skin that can be more problematic for those who are struggling with obesity.

Obesity and skin conditions can often be linked to one another. Those who struggle with obesity are more likely to develop diabetes. Diabetes can lead to several skin issues by itself. Obese persons also have to deal with conditions that are attributed to poor diets and excess fat deposits on the body.

Yeast Infections

Also known as Candida, yeast infections commonly occur in the folds of extra skin that obese persons tend to have. Any area that is allowed to stay moist can be a breeding ground for yeast. To combat this powder can be used to help keep the skin dry.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are a skin problem that tends to be exacerbated with obesity. These small tags of skin occur most frequently in persons with diabetes, but they can occur in anyone. They are most commonly found on the back, armpits and neckline area.

Stretch Marks

When skin expands due to growth the appearance of stretch marks can happen. These marks typically happen near the breasts, stomachs, thighs and armpit areas. Stretch marks can vary in color and change with age. They most often start as a pink or purple color and eventually fade to a normal skin tone.

Prickly Heat

Obese persons may have issues with prickly heat or heat rashes. This occurs when the skin folds block sweat glands. The sweat glands react by becoming inflamed. This inflammation combined with excess sweating can cause small itchy red bumps. In obese persons this is most common in the groin area, behind the knees and under the armpits.
