Positive Facts About Rap Music

It was all too prevalent during the 90s: rap artists participating in label-endorsed feuds, going to jail, flaunting time spent there like a well-earned badge of honor, getting shot and losing their lives to violence. These circumstances and situations became the norm for the world of hip-hop. It had gotten to the point that there didn't appear to be anything positive about rap music. Not necessarily true.

  • Rap music utilizes your creative juices. Rap music is an art form that uses a person's creative process. To be able to think on your feet, even if you write the thoughts down, is a gift. Rap allows people to take their talent for putting thoughts together in a unique way and display it before others. Rap is a gift for loving words and mixing them up in beautiful ways.

  • It re-teaches black history. A lot of blacks grew up experiencing negativity and lies when it came to knowing about their history. Between the late 80s and early 90s, rap artists such as KRS-1, Public Enemy and Tupaq mixed little known historical facts within their rhymes to teach blacks that they were more than just former slaves.

  • It keeps young artists out of jail (for the most part, anyway). When a person has a passion to succeed at something, especially if that something has the potential to change a person's life forever, he will do everything to enhance and upgrade that craft, including stay out of trouble. A young, fledgling rapper cannot become a multi-millionaire with his own record label, clothing line and car collection if he is behind bars.
