Rejuvenating a Car Battery

There are many reasons that your car's battery could go dead. You could have a problem with your cars alternator that is not allowing the battery to maintain a charge from the alternator or you could have left something on such as your headlights or another electrical device. Do not worry, you can recharge your battery in no time.

Battery Charger

If your battery is dead, you can easily recharge it with an electrical battery charger. This device simply plugs into an electrical source, and then hooks up to the battery using a positive and negative cable to provide juice to your dead battery. You need to leave the charger attached to your car for a while to obtain a full charge. Most battery charges have a voltage meter that lets you know how charged your battery is. If you are unsure how long it should charge a good rule of thumb is about a half an hour. Disconnect your battery from the charger and reinstall it into your car to test it out.

Another Vehicle

Jumping your battery from another vehicle is the quickest way to rejuvenate your battery’s power. You need jumper cables to use this method. Carefully attach the jumper cables to the positive and negative battery post on your car. Remember the red cable is positive and the black cable is negative. Be sure that the other sides of the jumper cables are no touching together when you hook the cables to your battery. Once the cables are secured to your battery hook the other end of the cables to the car that has full power. Allow them to set for a few minutes to provide enough juice to start your car. Once your car is started you can remove the cables and shut your hoods.

TIP: After charging your car's battery, you should always leave your car running for about a half an hour so that the alternator has time to rejuvenate the batteries power before shutting off your vehicle.
