Remedies for a Tooth Abscess
A tooth abscess is the result of an infection in your tooth. This common problem can often come on very quickly, and be the cause of severe pain and discomfort for the person afflicted. Facial swelling is common, and can be very scary. An abscess can be very dangerous if not treated, and a dentist should be contacted as soon as possible.
Garlic - If you are not able to get to a dentist right away, you may want to consider using garlic as a natural antibiotic. Garlic capsules are sold in the vitamin section at your local drug or general store. Follow the dosage instructions for the product that you purchase. It will usually recommend a dosage schedule of three times a day.
Vitamin C - If you have an abscess that means that you have an infection in the area surrounding the infected tooth. A body’s immune system can naturally fight infections. To boost your immune system, you should take vitamin C supplements. You can purchase these fairly inexpensively at your local drug store.
Baking soda - Baking soda can be used to draw out the infection from your tooth and bring it to the surface. Combine baking soda with water to form a paste and apply the paste to the infected area with a damp cotton ball. Allow this to sit in your mouth for about 30 minutes. You can do this a number of times to completely draw the infection out.
Salt - Mix salt with a small amount of water until it is moistened but not wet. Apply wet salt to the inside of your cheek near the affected tooth. Apply a damp cotton ball on top of the salt and allow the salt to sit for 15 minutes, reapply as needed. Salt is known to draw out the infection in your tooth and allow it to come to the surface so it can be popped.
Tea Bag - A tea bag can also be used to draw the infection out of your tooth. Wet a tea bag, and place it between your infected tooth and your cheek. Position it so it is as comfortable as possible. Leave the teabag for about an hour, and then change out. You will find that this will help the area to numb after a while as well, which can aid in pain relief.
