Renaissance Wedding Themes

Renaissance weddings are quickly becoming very popular. What once started with small groups of recreation enthusiasts has now become a full blown business for many people. Many people want an authentic renaissance wedding experience. This is probably one of the easiest themes to recreate.

The renaissance itself is the theme. This is period of time tends to make you think of love and beauty. Luckily, today we can skip over the icky parts of plaque and eating cold food because the high table took too long to feast. You can, however, create a beautiful wedding with a renaissance theme.

Outdoor theme

Choose either an outdoor location that feels like a meadow or feels like a step back in time. If you live near a forest, check with the forestry department and see if it has locations available for weddings.

Have a fire and roast dinner there. There are caterers who will do this for you. Ask that they serve meals that appear period but taste better. Traditionally, there was not a wedding cake but wedding cakes similar to cupcakes.

Hire minstrels to play traditional music and decorate the dance area with ribbons, greenery and flowers.

Indoor theme

Look for a place that is made of stone with large fireplaces and stained glass windows. Churches that look this way are easy to find and may have a banquet area available. Check with older buildings to see if they have anything that looks like this.

Bring in wrought iron and candles. Keep your colors natural. Deep purple is okay, but some of today’s shier purples would not work.

Serve food that fits your theme to give an authentic feel. Decorate with banners and flowers

Where to find help

If you are looking for help and possible fighting demonstrations, contact your local chapter of the SCA. This is a great organization that recreates history in a historically accurate way, minus the plaque of course.
