Top Vet Schools in California

To become a veterinarian takes many years of college.  Since you are investing so much time and money into your education, it’s important to make sure that it is quality education that will continue to benefit you after you graduate.  California has some great options for vet schools.

University of California School of Veterinary Medicine

Based out of Davis, California, UC’s School of Veterinary Medicine provides top quality education.  It is a teaching hospital, which means students get hands-on real life experience practicing vet medicine.  They offer education and clinic hours in both small and large animal specialization.  In addition, UC’s School of Veterinary Medicine offers six degree programs, ranging from four-year programs, masters and doctorate degrees.  The University is well-known for pioneering research and development, being credited with discovering diseases, cures and setting standards.  The School of Veterinary Medicine is one of only two schools in California that are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and has ranked second best vet school in North America, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine

Established recently in 1998, Western University is relatively new in the world of veterinary medicine.  They offer a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, which is four years and so their best to help guide you through the program with a suggested schedule for success.  They also provide clinical opportunities to give students a chance to participate in hands-on projects and situations, although they are not a fully functional hospital.  Students have the chance to perform non-invasive procedures on pets participating in their wellness program.  Western University is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medicine Association yet is an affordable option for students.
