Gymnastic Classes for Girls

Types of Gymnastic Classes

Gymnastics is a great physical activity for a child to get involved in. It teaches coordination, agility, balance and motor skills. Classes are not just limited to toddlers and teens, there are also classes available for adults who are interested as well.

Children

Gymnastics classes are designed for children to help them develop basic skills and channel that youthful energy for a variety of activities including handstands, somersaults, cartwheels and trampoline exercises. Ages for classes start as early as 1 year of age with parental accompaniment. Once a child becomes more advanced, then additional moves are taught such as handsprings, flips and balance beam techniques. Most classes are available at recreational centers or private gymnastic facilities.

Adults

Gymnastics classes are not just reserved for the young, but the young at heart, which includes adults. Some adults continue on from childhood in the sport of gymnastics while others try it for the first time as a new hobby. For this reason, there are both beginner and advanced classes available for adults based on skill level. These adult classes are usually offered at fitness centers, aerobic centers and facilities like the YMCA as a means to attract more adults and generate interest.

Tumbling

Tumbling classes consist of activities on the floor as well as the tumble track. These classes are seen as an introduction and building block for children. The moves and skills learned in tumbling will help children excel in a variety of other activities like cheerleading, martial arts and even wrestling.
