What Bait to Use When Saltwater Fishing

The sport of fishing has captured the interest of many outdoor lovers. However, many new to this recreational sport have yet to figure out what bait to use when saltwater fishing. Luckily, you will quickly learn which baits to use by reading the guidelines below.

When in Doubt, Use Shrimp

Different species of fish will have different bait preferences. However, there exists one type of bait that will attract a majority of types of fish. That popular fish bait is shrimp.  Buy it frozen, cut it up. Use it to catch many species of saltwater fish.

Attract Saltwater Fish with Large Shellfish

Buy whelks or conches. Cut them into chunk size pieces. Alternatively, keep the shellfish intact to bait larger fish.

Catch Saltwater Fish with Crabs

One of the best saltwater fishing baits is crab. Buy crabs with either hard or soft shells. Keep them whole to use as live bait, or take them apart to use as cut baits.

Use Octopi as Saltwater Fish Bait

Chop them up to lure small fish. Or buy small octopi, then use it as a whole for bait.

Lure Saltwater Fish with Artificial Baits

Live baits are not required to catch saltwater fish. Many artificial types of bait will successfully attract the saltwater fish in its nearby proximity. However, you will need to purchase either powders or creams to apply to the artificial bait to give off that scent of a natural bait. Such creams and powder can easily be found in hardware or sporting goods stores.
