How to Choose an Embroidery Sewing Machine

Embroidery Sewing Machine Crafts

Many women, and men, enjoy creating embroidery sewing machine crafts as gifts and for salable items for craft fairs. Many of the embroidery sewing machine crafts are fairly simple to create because today's sewing machines are a type of self-propelled and will make what they are instructed to make as long as someone is threading the material through the machine.

Many people enjoy embroidery but do not like to take the time that hand sewing requires. Embroidery sewing machine crafts are faster and there is a wide variety of items one could embroidery on to personalize with monograms or make a one-of-a-kind gift. Most of the techniques are already programmed into a sewing machine that embroideries; however, there are a few that need to be programmed to be completed.

Embroidery and Appliqué

A sewing machine could be used to embroider appliqué accents, which could then be stitched onto a number of items such as tote bags, purses, clothing, upholstery and draperies. Begin by selecting a pattern from the catalog of embroidery patterns in the sewing machine. This pattern must be able to hold an outline with a satin stitch. One suggestion is to choose a pattern that contains an underlay stitch so the outline does not drift and the fill stitches are also held in place so they do not fade into the fabric.

Dimensional Embroidery

A sewing machine with an embroidery pattern selection could create three-dimensional small items like a single flower on towels, bags, shirts or pillows and bedspreads. There are so many different items a three-dimensional embroidery piece could be applied to that the list seems endless.

Trapunto

Trapunto is an embroidery method used on fleece materials. Trapunto can be used to embroidery on fleece jackets, pants, blankets or scarves. One must choose a light stabilizer and a permanent cutaway, one that will not distort the fleece but will support the stitches.
