How to Become a Member of the American Quarter Horse Association
If you're an American Quarter Horse enthusiast, you might be wondering how to become a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, or AQHA. Joining is simple and membership does have some nice perks. First and foremost, you'll have the opportunity to be part of a community of those who love horses. You will also be able to show in certain AQHA shows.
- Visit the American Quarter Horse Association's official website. Here you will find detailed information about the club, including membership details.
- Learn about AQHA member benefits. These might include a subscription to America's Horse magazine, complimentary Internet records (for showing, pedigrees and breeding) and certain corporate discounts.
- Decide what kind of membership you want. You have three choices: a general membership, an amateur membership and a youth membership.
- Consider registering for a general membership in the American Quarter Horse Association if you simply want to show in the AQHA open division. You can register for 12 months, 36 months or for life. If you're interested in showing in other divisions, including amateur, you'll need a different type of membership.
- Find out if you qualify for an amateur AQHA membership. Not everyone will qualify. For example, if you've shown or trained an American Quarter Horse for compensation (wages), you cannot become an AQHA amateur member.
- Determine if you qualify for an American Quarter Horse youth membership. Are you 18 years old or younger? Do you plan to show an AQHA-approved horse in youth shows? You may be eligible for an AQUA youth membership.
- Fill out the correct membership application via the AQHA's official website.
