How to Block Cable Channels
When children are in a home, many parents wish to block certain TV shows or whole channels because of inappropriate content. Cable companies make it easy with parental control features included in the systems in your home. Follow a few easy steps to block offensive programming.
- Turn the TV on.
- Look for the “Menu” button on the TV remote and press it. All remotes should have one.
- Look for “Settings” or “Parental Controls.” The menu display will vary according to the cable provider, but one of the selections should be an option.
- Enter the PIN number. When you had the cable system installed, you should have chosen a PIN number to activate various service options on your TV or cable. If you don’t know the number, contact your cable provider to find out what it is, or check the manual that came with the system. There may be a default PIN number programmed.
- Set the controls. After entering the settings or parental control features, there should be options to block and unblock channels. Choose the channels you want to block and ensure you have set the block to “On.” Some services even allow the user to block individual TV shows based on the rating. This feature is located on the parental control or settings options as well.
- Store the remote in a high location to keep away from toddlers. Even young children can quickly and easily learn how to remove blocks from TV shows and channels that are forbidden.
