How to Choose a Corner Wine Rack

How to Build a Wine Rack

Wine racks provide storage for your your vino so bottles don't take up valuable counter space. Racks can also turn the bottles into usable art to adorn walls. A tilted wine rack allows you to store multiple bottles in a small space. Storing the wine tilted also helps prevent the corks from drying out.

  1. Cut a 4-by-1-inch hardwood plank
to 36-inches. Sand the edges with fine-grit sandpaper until
    they are smooth.

  2. Lay a measuring tape lengthwise down the
center of the board. Mark the board every four inches,
    beginning four inches in.

  3. Clamp the board to a drill press
and adjust so the board is held at a 30 degree angle.
Drill a 1 1/4-inch hole at each marked location on the board using a
    forstner bit.

  4. Sand around the interior of the
holes and create a perfectly smooth
    opening.

  5. Paint the board in a wood stain
color, or use a clear sealant for protection.
If you prefer a painted board, apply a coat of primer then follow
with one to two coats of latex paint.

  6. Turn the board over. Mark the
board two inches in from each end. Screw a wrought iron shelf bracket
to the board at each mark. Sink the screw heads into the board using
a countersink drill bit. Fill the holes with wood putty and
    paint or stain over them.

  7. Hang the wine rack on your wall. Screw the brackets into wall studs, as drywall
cannot hold the weight of the wine bottles. Place the wine bottle's
necks through the holes in the board so they are held upside
down at an angle. You can set opened bottles upright on top of the
    board.
