How to Buy Repossessed Storage Units
If you are interested in buying a repossessed storage unit, look for a storage auction being held near you. Bid on storage units during this auction making sure that you are careful to look within the unit you are bidding on.
- Locate storage facilities in your area and call them to see when they hold auctions for their repossessed storage units. Some storage places will do this monthly while others will do this only occasionally. Ask for dates for the next auction and choose the facility that has an auction coming up.
- Travel to the storage auction making sure to show up at least 20 minutes early so you can stand in the front of the crowd of attendees. This is important so that you can see storage units and hear the individual holding the auction.
- Wait for the auction to start and look closely into each storage unit when it is opened. This will happen right before the unit is auctioned off. You will only have a few minutes to look into the unit so look quick and carefully to see whether or not there is anything stored that may interest you. Choose the unit that seems the most interesting to you and bid on it.
- Bid on the storage unit that you want. Some units may bid high so keep a good figure in mind for the amount of money you want to spend. It is very important to set a limit for yourself because you may get caught up in the bidding process.
- Pay for the storage unit that you have won at the auction and inquire about the time that you have to remove the items from storage.
- Remove the items from the storage unit within the time frame that was given to you when you payed for the unit. Pack your items in a truck or moving van, making sure to do this carefully, as items that are packed in boxes may be breakable.
