How to Find Auctions for Local Storage Units

When people fail to pay for their storage units, they are eventually auctioned off by the storage company to retrieve the delayed payment.  Whether you own a second hand store or just want to make some extra money, buying units at auctions is a great way to get cheap merchandise.  You can find auctions for local storage units by contacting storage companies in your area and speaking to auctioneers.

  1. Search for public storage facilities in your area.  Be flexible about how far you are willing to travel.  You can make a lot of money reselling merchandise you collect at various storage facilities throughout the state.  Make a list of all the storage companies you are willing to travel to.  Look for their contact information, and write it down alongside the company name.

  2. Call up all each storage facility on your list to find out about their procedures and auction schedule.  Some storage companies have a set schedule in place for their upcoming auctions while others hold auctions on short notice.  Knowing how each facility operates will help you keep track of auction days in your area.  Ask for information regarding the auction process itself.  The wide majority of storage facilities require all payments in cash, and many have their own special guidelines when it comes to how the auctions are held.

  3. Contact local auctioneers.  Auctions for local storage units are typically held by professional auctioneers who visit various storage facilities on a regular basis.  Contact auctioneers and auction companies in your area to find out whether they specialize in storage unit auctions.  If they do, ask when and where upcoming auctions will take place.
