How to Change a Filter on a Water Filtration System
Some people choose to install water filtration systems in their home if they live in an area where the quality of the water is poor. The system will last for several years if it is properly maintained and cared for.
If you have a water infiltration system installed in your home it is highly recommended that you replace the filter on the system on a regular basis to ensure the quality of the water. Changing the filter is something you can easily do yourself in a matter of minutes by following a few simple instructions.
- Shut off the water supply before attempting to change the filter. Most of the newer model homes will have a shut off valve located below the filter system. If not, you will need to go outside to shut off the main water supply to the house.
- Turn on one of the faucets on the inside of the house to release any water that is remaining in the pipes. It is recommended that you leave the faucet open until you complete the process to relieve the pressure.
- Unscrew the housing of the water filter system and completely remove it from the system. This is where the filter is stored.
- Take out the old filter and use a damp sponge to clean any dirt and debris out of the inside of the housing.
- Place the new filter inside the housing.
- Screw the housing back onto the water filter system.
- Turn off the faucet you left open.
- Turn the water supply back on and check for any leaks around the housing.
