How to Change the Time on Atomic Desk Clocks

Atomic clocks set the time automatically so that the user will always know the correct time.  The clock gets the time from frequencies transmitted by frequencies much like tuning a radio station.  The clocks get the correct time from various atomic clocks around the country including Boulder, Colorado.

  • Determine whether the clock has a setting allowing the user to select atomic time or analog time that the user sets.  Many atomic clocks feature both systems because some people prefer to set the clock fast or use the clock as a secondary international clock.

  • Use the built-in timepiece to change the time.  Remember that the clock is no longer receiving automatic updates to the time when the switch from atomic to analog is flipped.

  • Change the time on an atomic clock by changing the time zone setting.  Unlike a clock that has a digital or mechanical mechanism to keep time, the atomic clock receives a radio frequency to indicate the time.

  • Determine your time zone based on how many hours before or after the universal standard time that you area is located.  If you do not know your time zone, there are many Internet websites with time zone maps.

  • Update the clock during daylight savings time by accessing the features and settings for the particular clock.  Some clocks automatically update during daylight savings time, and other clocks have a setting allowing the user to turn the feature on or off.  If the automatic update feature is off, the incorrect time may display on the clock.
