How to Clean Automotive Leather Interior
Leather seats can add a sense of style to the interior of a car. These types of seats can easily become dirty or stained from use just like other types of materials used in a car. Leather car seats can also become cracked if they are not properly maintained.
Materials Needed
- Leather cleaner
- Cloths
- Water
- Sunscreen for leather seats
- Purchase leather cleaner for the seats. You can find this type of cleaner at either a hardware store or at your local car store. Spray some of the cleaner on an inconspicuous spot to determine if the cleaner will discolor the leather.
- Saturate a cloth with water and squeeze the cloth until it is damp. Use the cloth to wipe the leather seats. This will remove any dust, dirt and grease from the seats.
- Lightly coat the surface of the seats with the leather cleaner. Use a clean cloth to rub the cleaner into the seats. Avoid using too much of the cleaner because it can be hard to remove. One or two light coats are sufficient.
- Take a clean cloth and wet it. Wring the cloth until it is damp. Use the damp cloth to go over the areas where the leather cleaner was sprayed. Use a dry clean cloth to buff the seats to a shine. You should notice the seats start to shine while buffing them with the cloth.
- Spray the seats with a coat of sunscreen made for leather seats. The sunscreen will help protect the seats from sun rays, which can dry and crack the leather. This will also keep the color of the seats from discoloring.
