How to Clean Car Covers

Car covers are used to protect your car from the weather elements, dirt and dust. There is nothing to protect the car cover so it must be cleaned to help it last longer so it can protect your car longer. Cleaning the car cover can be challenging but it can be done.

Materials Needed

  • 2 buckets

  • Warm water

  • All purpose cleaner

  • 2 sponges

  • Towel

  1. Reverse the car cover so it is facing the incorrect way. Place the car cover over the car in this position. You will start cleaning this side first.

  2. Fill a bucket with 1 gallon warm water. Add 4 ounces of all-purpose cleaner to the bucket. Swish a sponge around in the cleaning solution to mix it. Fill a second bucket with clean water and place a clean sponge in the bucket. Avoid using dish liquid as a cleaner because it can get on the car paint and damage it.

  3. Use the sponge and cleaning solution to carefully clean the entire car cover. The best way to achieve this is to start in the center of the car cover and work towards the edges. Rinse the car cover with the bucket of clean water. Use a clean towel to dry the car cover. Allow the car cover to completely dry.

  4. Repeat Step 2, especially if the liquids in both buckets are dirty. Remove the car cover and turn it on the correct side and place it over the car. Repeat Step 3. Leave the car cover on the car.
