How to Connect PC Speakers to an LCD TV

If your LCD television's speakers are not working properly or just aren't loud enough, you can connect PC speakers to the TV to make it louder. PC mini speakers can be connected to a television similar to the way a surround sound system is connected. Sound will then play through both the television and PC speakers.

Items Needed:

  • "Y" adapter

  • RCA cables

  • PC speakers

  • Mini plug cables

  • LCD television

  1. Locate the audio output ports on the back of the LCD television. They should be labeled with the word "Audio" or have an image of headphones or a speaker next to them. On certain TV models, they may be red or white.

  2. Connect the two ends of the RCA "Y" adapter into the LCD television's output ports. If they are colored, match the colors of the cables to the proper ports.

  3. Locate the plug on the right-channel PC speaker. Plug it into the mini-plug port on the "Y" adapter.

  4. Locate the mini plug cable on the left-channel PC speaker. Connect the mini-plug cable to the mini-plug port on the back of the right-channel speaker. Each speaker should now be connected to each other and the LCD television.

  5. Plug the power cord in. The power cord should be connected to the right-channel speaker. If the speakers have knobs or buttons that power them on, turn them to do so.

  6. Turn on the television, and check that both the television speakers and connected PC speakers are producing sound. Adjust the volume on either device to reach the desired sound level.
