How to Cover Concrete Stairs

Steps are an essential asset to the landscaping of your home. However, some concrete steps have a tendency to have an older and rugged look to them. To change the appearance of the steps, you can choose to cover them with wood planks.

Items Needed:

  • Saw

  • Weights

  • Measuring tape

  • Flooring adhesive

  • Wood flooring

  • Plywood

  • Cement bolts

  • Sandpaper

  1. Inspect the steps to see if there is any damage such as decay. If necessary, fill in the cracks so that the new wood placed on top doesn’t buckle.

  2. Measure the dimensions of the steps. Make sure that the width and the length of the wooden planks can cover the steps.

  3. Purchase plywood and cut out a piece that can cover the dimensions of the steps. Cut several pieces that replicate the first piece that you cut. You can use these planks to cover the rest of the steps

  4.  Smooth down the edges of the plywood to prevent it from having rough edges. By smoothing out the edges, you give your steps a neater appearance.

  5. Drill holes into each piece of wood. Make sure that the holes are big enough for the bolts you are using.

  6. Place the planks on top of the steps and bolt them down.

  7. Use floor adhesive to cement the wooden planks to the steps. Use plenty of coats and wait for them to dry

  8. Place weight upon the steps so that the slants will stick to the glue. You make use the weights as long as needed in order for the planks to stick properly.
