How to Cut Through Concrete Walls

Whether you need to cut your concrete walls for more space, or simply need to tear down a wall, this is generally a type of project that professionals should tackle. If, however, you wish to attempt this task on your own, there are a few ways to do this.

Things You Will Need:

  • Hand saw

  • Circular saw

  • Diamond chainsaw

  • Cut-off saw

  • Jackhammer

  • Ropes

  • Ring saw

  • Rent a handheld saw that is designed for this type of project. The concrete saw must be gas powered for the most effective results. You may opt to use a regular circular saw. If this is the case, however, obtain a carborundum blade for this project.

  • Use a diamond chainsaw for the edges and corners of the pieces you decide to cut. This water-cooled piece is ideal for hard-to-reach areas and beam pockets.

  • Use a diamond wall saw for walls that are up to 8 inches thick. These types of saws should be aluminum track mounted. If you have a thicker wall to cut, use higher blade diameter in order to get through pieces that are up to 18 inches thick.

  • Cut down the sides of the concrete wall from the top of each side down to the bottom with the use of a cut-off saw. Hang a jackhammer on ropes and allow it to go through the wall. The best type of jackhammer to use is one that is 90 pounds.

  • Use a ring saw to cut the concrete wall. These types of partner saws cut especially deep, even with blade diameters that are equal to comparable methods.
